The reality of Jesus Christ unveiled in Scripture.
In John 17:17–19, Jesus asks the Father to sanctify His disciples in the truth. To sanctify means to set apart for God. Jesus prays that the Father’s word will shape His people as He sends them into the world. That prayer gives us a way to approach Scripture. We open it to see Jesus more clearly and to let what we see change how we live.
“The second gift is God’s Word, which is the Truth. It is the Truth that makes His people one…The Truth is Jesus Christ…”

See Jesus in Scripture
Jesus said boldly and unequivocally, “I Am the Truth” in John 14:6. Pay attention to what Jesus notices, what He says, and how He responds to people. Watch Him kneel to wash His disciples’ feet in John 13. The One they call Lord takes the place of a servant. Then He asks them to follow His example.
A passage like that can bring an ordinary situation into focus. Perhaps there is a task you have been leaving for someone else, or a person you have been too busy to listen to. Seeing how Jesus serves gives you a way to respond.
Make room for the Word to shape us
When we read Scripture together, a friend may notice a detail we missed or ask a question that sends us back to the passage. Even when we see things differently, we can ask together what Jesus is showing us about Himself and how He is calling us to respond. As His words shape the way we listen and speak to one another, the truth we read begins to shape the life we share.
Begin here. Read John 17:14–19 with someone. Ask what Jesus wants for the people He sends into the world. Choose one thing from the passage to carry into your conversations or decisions this week.
